One explanation for at least some kinds of yaoi? Yaoi is to straight women what girl-on-girl pr0n is to straight guys. Real lesbian porn is different than girl-with-girl porn marketed to men, from all I've heard. Yaoi isn't real gay male erotica, and has entirely different treatments than that. (Although the better yaoi authors tend to make some nods to what's actually physically possible. Like, lube being one's friend.)

One of these days I'll see if I can finish up my little yaoi thing and see if it's too twee for words. (And if it is... Ah, well, there are fun bits. Although it is hard to write good smut, which actually has plot impact, when the viewpoint character is being a prude. *smacks the viewpoint character*)
