FLASH #1

Feb 03, 2010 01:38

A hum begins to emanate from the very Island itself. It starts off low, a gentle throbbing, until it grows louder. The hum becomes so loud that all those on the Island double over in pain, holding their ears as they wonder what is happening. To some, this sound is all too familiar. To others, it's another odd happening on this strange Island.

Juliet is stacking some spare boxes in the closet of the darkened guest room, having finally cleaned out their over-full bookshelf, when there's a familiar sound that starts humming through the air. She barely has time to be surprised before she's doubled over in pain and yelling for James. Suddenly, everything goes white and Juliet loses consciousness, toppling into the closet as boxes cascade around her.

Juliet finally awakens, and with it comes a sudden flash of memories, of dark spaces and fear and pain... and her death. She comes to with a start, panicked, suddenly aware of the dark, of how she seems to be inside a small space again, covered in heavy things that remind her all too heavily of the moment of her death. Of all that pain.

Juliet lets out an anguished scream, struggling against the weight of the boxes, disoriented and frightened.

James had been reading a book in the hammock after dinner, and as it had gotten darker, he had put it down, deciding to take a nap instead. He was awoken by a humming sound, and it wasn't soon before that familiar white light was taking over everything he knew.

When he woke up, he was on the ground, the smell of dirt strong in his nose. He pushes himself up as memories flood his mind. Time spent, digging a hole and filling it back in again, the ground fuller than it was before. Memories of a place in the middle of the island, filled with people who he could have cared less about.

He finally stands, stretching his body when he hears the scream from inside. His eyes widen and he takes off running before he even knows where he heading. When he gets inside the house, he looks around for a light that will tell him where to go. When he can't see one, he starts to panic.

Juliet!

Juliet struggles anew at the sound of his voice, the situation all too familiar. She sobs as she calls out.

J-JAMES!

Juliet curls up as best she can, trying to block out everything that's rushing into her mind. The smell of her own blood, the metallic taste in her mouth as she bled out... it's too much, too overwhelming, and she gasps between sobs.

He hears her shout again and runs to the spare room, flipping the light switch on. He sees her, covered in boxes, and curses under his breath as he rushes to her, flinging boxes to and fro like they have nothing in them.

It's ok, I'm right here.

Once he's got her free of the clutter, he grabs her and pulls her towards him, falling back as he does so. He gathers her in his arms and holds her close, murmuring in to her.

It's ok, it was-- it's over now.

The feeling had been growing all day. That sense of something coming, something happen was thick in the air and Ben had stood on his steps, watching the sky, as if he expected a sign. He breathed deeply, trying to make sense of what it was, remembering his talk with Tom.

He's leaning against the railing when there's a loud hum, causing him to grunt and cover his ears in pain before collapsing to the floor of his porch.

When he awakes, Ben feels a new sadness, a new darkness. He sighs heavily, leaning up against rail as he sits on the floor. It's almost overwhelming and he has to concentrate very hard to keep a lump from rising too far in his throat.

HE NOTICES BEN ON HIS PORCH, LOOKING VISIBLY UPSET. HE DECIDES IT'S BEST TO TRY AND GET HIS MIND OFF THINGS, SO HE WALKS UP TO THE PORCH.

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?

Nothing you could understand.

He sits up a bit, trying to right himself after having collapsed to the floor.

Jack was alone in the infirmary. He wasn't sure where Ethan was but he could care less at this point. He heard what he thought was a loud humming but the next thing he knows, the room was completely white and he felt a sharp pain in his head.

When he woke up, he wasn't sure why, or what it was exactly but... Something was different. He felt different. Almost like he had new memories he doesn't seem to remember ever having before.

Jack walked outside, trying to see where everyone else was or if they even felt what just happened.

It was not surprising, when he saw everyone else just as confused as he was...

I ... I don't know... I couldn't save you Sayid. Jacob said that the Temple was the only place that could save you on the island...

How exactly was the temple supposed to save me, the last thing I remember is drowning.

Jacob said this?
