Should I be laughing or cringing?

A long time ago, I read a quote on how some comedies have scenes that are so brutal they range on horrific, and some horror movies are so intense it can be comedic. Sometimes, there's nothing better then clinging to the edge of your seat, only to have the flimmaker hit you with something funny.

I know a lot of people reference "PANCAKES!" from Cabin ( Read more... )

There's a scene in the first Resident Evil movie where Spencer, Kaplan and Rain are locked in the room that leads to the Red Queen's chambers and they start talking about the "people" they saw.

Kaplan: What are they? It's pretty goddamn obvious what they are. Lab coats, badges, THOSE PEOPLE USED TO WORK HERE!
Rain: All the people working here are dead
Spencer: Well that hasn't stopped them from walking around

I also love the scene where Rain talks about getting laid and Matt tells her that she might want to clean up from. Then there's the GTA scene from Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

You know that scene early on in The Exorcist where Linda Blair is getting tossed around her bed and is screaming, "Mommy, make it stop!"

I got in trouble because I woke everybody in my house with my quite literal howls of laughter. The rest of the movie is so nice and tense, and that scene was goddamned terrifying in the novel, but in the movie? She reminded me of a pancake, or a fish.

My boyfriend's a huge fan of the RE movies, and I tend to joke about them when he's watching them, but he usually won't join in. So I was kind of pleasantly surprised when we saw the third installment in theaters, and during the scene in which Milla's character is holding one of her robot-selves and it dies, my boyfriend sang really loudly, "I just died in my arms tonight" (you know, to the tune of the Cutting Crew song).

Oh, and this is basically me saying that I fucking hate the Resident Evil movies, so every scene was something I laughed at.
