I can't really judge Orci on his director skills, but my first reaction was

My thought was, "The reason he is leaving is that God does exist and wants us to be happy."

There's some buzz that Edgar Wright might take the helm. That would be AMAZING. Make it so!

No WAY. Edgar Wright has only been my IDEAL FANTASY ST DIRECTOR FOREVER. This must happen. This needs to happen.

TrekCore reports that Paramount has problems with the script, which would have had the Enterprise, the Vulcans, and a new alien race each trying to gain control of a time travel device, the Vulcans so that they could undo the destruction of their planet. So Orci's having problems on the scriptwriting front, as well.

I would love to have Vulcan (and Amanda) back again, so I'm sorry they're throwing out this script.

Over two movies I have watched them trash Trek's history. The loss of Vulcan is something I'll never forgive Abrams for - and now they apparently regret it because Orci was trying to bring it back? How are they going to get past the fact you can now teleport direct to the Klingon homeworld, and they've found a way to cheat death? Sloppy writing led to the use of stupid plot devices they're going to have trouble working their way out of.

Same here. Blowing up Vulcan is the biggest problem I have with the reboot. I can forgive most of the rest.

I feel the same way. Always easier and lazier to destroy another's work than come up with your own ideas. It's the main reason I can't wait 09 any more (that and on subsequent viewings the stupid comes all I see.)

So, is there even a remote chance that this film will be done by Trek's 50th anniversary in 2016?

I think so. A big 50th anniversary is too much for Paramount to pass up. I imagine they will also re-release, like, a DVD box set or something too.

THANK THE GODS.

Orci will still remain involved with Trek 3 as a producer, THR has confirmed.

Oh. Well, at least they got it half right. That's something, I guess.

Now get David Lynch to direct this thing, and I might - MIGHT - watch it.
