TrekCore reports that Paramount has problems with the script, which would have had the Enterprise, the Vulcans, and a new alien race each trying to gain control of a time travel device, the Vulcans so that they could undo the destruction of their planet. So Orci's having problems on the scriptwriting front, as well.
I would love to have Vulcan (and Amanda) back again, so I'm sorry they're throwing out this script.
Over two movies I have watched them trash Trek's history. The loss of Vulcan is something I'll never forgive Abrams for - and now they apparently regret it because Orci was trying to bring it back? How are they going to get past the fact you can now teleport direct to the Klingon homeworld, and they've found a way to cheat death? Sloppy writing led to the use of stupid plot devices they're going to have trouble working their way out of.
I feel the same way. Always easier and lazier to destroy another's work than come up with your own ideas. It's the main reason I can't wait 09 any more (that and on subsequent viewings the stupid comes all I see.)
That sounds interesting, but it's all about how it's done. They really had a problem with not just their content this last time around, but how they executed it. I liked Amanda and Vulcan, but the thing I wanted most was a focus on the team and the people that have been sidelined like Uhura getting a bit more attention. I think it's kind of funny that at least I'd think most people would expect the characters that make up the original team would be a focus in these movies, but apparently not. The producers have their favorites...
