Damon Lindelof talks STID, Red Shirts, Easter Eggs, Cumberbatch and loads more

Really good read this. Lindelof talks about how casting Cumberbatch had them go back and tweak the script, how much time has passed between the films, why they didn't film on the Paramount lot and loads more. Will take a while to get through it, but well worth a look.

Hah! I knew it! They're such 12 year olds at heart! "Hey, let's see if they'll let us build the Enterprise! I've always wanted my own full-sized spaceship!"

I'd be ok with half size.

I'd do ANYTHING for a TARDIS.

The thing I love most about the Abramsprise is that it is SO massive. I grew up with the Enterprise-D, so when I think Enterprise, I think BIG FUCKING SHIP that the rest of the fleet drools over, which is what the Galaxy Class ship was. I always wished that the Prime universe Enterprise NCC-1701 was bigger, although I understand why it was designed the size that it was and it totally makes sense. Still, my need to have "my" Enterprise be the most awesome ship ever is satiated by having a big ass, sparkly ship. I wonder if they fixed the scaling error with the deck windows in this movie? Oh the arguments that were had on the official 2009 movie forum about the ship size, the shuttle bay, and the windows. lol We busted out MS paint and diagrams and I willingly did MATH ( ... )

Actually, have they made the JJprise about the same size as the original Enterprise? If you've seen the nine minute prologue, Kirk and Bones look pretty much the right size next to ship that's around 300 metres long. But what do I know? I sucked at math in school. lol All I know is that the TARDIS is 2.75 metres tall for the past fifty years, and long may she stay that way.

No, it's much bigger. Although in the 9 minute under water shot, you're right that it looks to be about 300 meters, which is definitely the wrong size. Goddammit, ILM! My guess is that it's an intentional ILM sizing error for aesthetic reasons. If the ship was the proper size Kirk and Spock would be little specks and you'd barely be able to see them under water. ILM has given an approximate size for the Abramsprise that is between 725.35 meters long and 763 meters long, depending on which designer you ask on any given day. Unless, of course, they've changed their minds and scaled it back down, although I doubt it because JJ was the one who wanted it scaled up in the first place ( ... )

Right, let's try this again. I replied to this last night, and it never posted. I can't even remember most of what I wanted to say now...

Anyway, I'm one of these people sticks his fingers in his ears and refuses to believe this 700 metre malarkey until it's mentioned on screen and therefore becomes canon. Sorry! lol But it does seem that ickle Kirk and Bones being the just-about-right relative size while swimming into the airlock seems to have upset the apple tart once again!

And I remember discussions just like that from when the film came out from when I was on message boards! Is startrekmovie.com still active, or have Paramount taken it off-line?
