"The Protectmarriage.com legal team looks forward to standing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the people's right to preserve the fundamental building block of civilization, especially since the dissents accompanying today's decision strongly support our arguments. The democratic process and the most important human institution -- marriage -- shouldn't be overthrown based on the demands of Hollywood activists."

the people's right to preserve

No.

We do not have a 'right' to oppress others. That is not how rights work.

"Marriage is a universal good that has been honored by diverse cultures and faiths for the entire history of Western civilization," said Brian Raum, senior counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund. The organization is part of the legal defense team for ProtectMarriage.com, the banner organization for proponents of the measure.

So pretty much you just made the argument FOR gay marriage given that other cultures and many faiths support it, not to mention other forms of marriage like group marriage.

"Marriage is a universal good that has been honored by diverse cultures and faiths for the entire history of Western civilization,"

So one culture obviously has the right to step on it and claim it all to themselves, and prevent anyone else from adapting it to suit their needs as has been done with it for thousands of years, from property transactions to alliances of noble houses to polygamy to polyandry to business arrangements to establishment of fatherhood for purposes of inheritance to enabling adult women to escape their parents' authority to alliances of countries to being able to fuck without disapproval to immigration streamlining to giving babies legitimacy to joining together for love . . . ?

Fuck you, ADF.
