"The Protectmarriage.com legal team looks forward to standing before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the people's right to preserve the fundamental building block of civilization"

Let me guess, you also think that marriage has remained exactly the same since it first came about. Or since Christianity came about, which I suppose is the same thing for these people.

that chart is just from the bible... they referenced the entire history of Western civilization, which brings up wonderful things like jus primae noctis, politically arranged marriages, Islamic polygamy, Mormon polygamy, and anything else you can dig up. It's a broad net to cast.

I'll let the American Anthropological Association speak directly to that point:

The results of more than a century of anthropological research on households, kinship relationships, and families, across cultures and through time, provide no support whatsoever for the view that either civilization or viable social orders depend upon marriage as an exclusively heterosexual institution. Rather, anthropological research supports the conclusion that a vast array of family types, including families built upon same-sex partnerships, can contribute to stable and humane societies.

The Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association strongly opposes a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to heterosexual couples.

I think if they really cared about American families, they would put all the money and time they sink into this into helping people keep their homes, feed and clothe themselves, afford better schools.

Oh wait. That's for communists, socialists and godless heathens. NEVER MIND.

Hopefully they'll keep refusing the rehearing.

Gah. So - basically just more delay? What if the SC won't review? Does that mean same-sex marriage legal again in CA finally?

And really - fuck that guy and his bullshite about preserving marriage. No, no, no and no. How about this, instead, which settled the argument, as far as i'm concerned, 45 years ago.

Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival....

Yes, if the Supremes turn them down, it will be legal, but only in California. Even if the Supremes uphold the decision, it will likely be on narrow grounds that still will keep the decision focused on California. It's possible that the Court will pass on this one and take one of the other cases coming up instead, like the suit Massachusetts has brought against DOMA. They can dither on piecemeal decisions for years.

Okay, cool. I didn't think it would effect any other state but California, but I wasn't sure exactly *what* would happen if the SC said 'no way'.

I hope they do. Enough is fucking enough, already.
