The challenge to the University of Texas program comes from Abigail Fisher, who filed a lawsuit with another woman when they were denied admission there. They contended the university's race-conscious policy violated their civil and constitutional rights. By then, the two had enrolled elsewhere.

SO LET ME GET THIS FUCKING STRAIGHT.

They're bitching and moaning about how this school turned them down in favor of some non-white kids who probably wouldn't have had much of a chance to go elsewhere, even though they got to go somewhere else and still keep going to school?

oic

ugh right? I guess they're ~ENTITLED~ to go to their first-choice university. Obviously non-white kids getting in instead of a couple of white people is tragedy/miscarriage of justice/etc.

idek, so gross.

Well, clearly...black kids can't ever be more intelligent or better suited to a college than entitled white kids. It clearly must be that the school HAD to let them in instead.

So very well said.

Note also that these people never even considered challenging the fact that black youth face unequal and unfair opportunities EVERY DAY of their lives. Because of course a case like *that* wouldn't be worth bringing to the attantion of the court.

I'm curious to know why they were denied admission?
Not that I'm crying over this but where I am from the only requirement is to have a bachelor degree so anyone can go to uni and there is no numerus clausus (at least not the first 3 years - except for medecine which has a particular status).

I'm not sure where you're from (assuming UK or the like from using the word "uni" but could be wrong!). But here we have to apply to colleges and some have more strict guidelines as to who gets in. If it's a top tier school they get to be more choosy. For lower end schools and community colleges most or all people can get in.

We have pretty much the same system here in the UK, jsyk. I guess it depends on admissions levels, although I thought France was fairly similar in terms of university attendance to us - guess not! Must look into that. Ours'll probably change a lot when the tuition fees go up.

I would LOVE to know where they came up with this idea from. I mean, when I was denied for a grad school I went to it never even crossed my mind that it could have ANYTHING to do with my race. I'm pretty sure it had to do with my applying to school above what my GRE scores would allow me to get into.

And I'm pretty sure no schools writes and says "Oh well, hey we thought you were awesome but we had to give it to these poor black girls instead cause the administration told us to! So sorry!" PLEASE. How entitled and bullshitty can these girls get. They were probably denied because they don't work hard enough and expect shit to just come their way.

Exactly. It doesn't sound like there's a case here at all.

The "points system" that Michigan used for a while, there was more evidence, but here it really just sounds like sour grapes by the plaintiffs.

Yeah, how would they even know exactly why they were denied admission?

The only thing I could imagine is they were rich kids whose parents knew someone at the school. But if that were the case and they were really appropriate material for the school some OTHER kid would have gotten denied by affirmative action.

So basically...they're grasping at straws here and coming up with nothing. It's not going to go well for them. And it'll likely plague them the rest of their lives. Good luck girls! Can't wait for future potential employers to dig THIS one up.
