Bloomberg is so confusing to me. He's a total prick wrt Occupy, but he's been great on marriage equality and now this.

Eh, he's a dick with occasional flashes of human decency. He's better than the current crop of GOP candidates, but he is hated in NYC for a reason. Not with just Occupy Wall Street although protestor suppression isn't new with him, but pandering to rich people interest, completely disregarding the state of educational opportunities of POCs, trying to bust the unions in the city or fuck with them (last year Snowpocalypse incident that hampered with people getting critical medicinal care [and people died because thry couldn't get the care they should've gotten] and affected people who needed to work to pay bills and told people just to enjoy their 'snow days'), not to mention that he managed to take down the NYC mayoral term limits without residents' vote (and thought he was slick putting the resolution of reinstating said law on the back of the voting form (the paper made it like there was nothing on the back) but luckily enough people voted to reinstate it, the disregard of rampant police brutality among POCs. Ugh ( ... )

I suspect his heart's often in the right place, even when his head is up his own ass.

That's the stance I take with Bloomberg, honestly. I have mixed views about him - his platforms on social issues are pretty awesome, but he totally ruins it by pandering to rich businessmen and basically creating NYC as a play place for them, at the expense of poor and working-class people. NYC's service expansion is also primarily tourist-oriented IMO. And I'm not sure that he follows up on his "awesome social view" - for example, when the marriage debate was really ramping up in NYC I don't remember him loudly/vocally supporting same-sex marriage and throwing his back behind it. The mayor of NYC may be the single most important mayor in the State of New York ( ... )

Some other awesome news re: donations to PP....

The band 'The Decemberists' had a 'Team Jenny' t-shirt and other merch for sale in honor of a bandmate currently fighting cancer, with the proceeds going to Komen. They are now going, 100%, to PP.

Nice!

I was so glad to see that response from them. It's nice when a group you like keeps giving you more reasons to like them instead of the opposite.

Ah, Mayor Bloomberg. You are such an ass with delusions of grandeur and some seriously huge blind spots, but you are an ass with human decency.
