The Lorraine Motel, where King was assassinated, is now a civil rights museum. I highly recommend it if you are ever in Memphis. You can't go on the balcony, but you can see the room he stayed in when he was there.

Photos of lynchings make real the intimidation and terrorism that existed in that time and place. Obviously, it's horrible to see and the world is a little less bright after you realize (again) that this happened and was real. But it seems important to remember these individuals died this way and that many lived in this atmosphere.

I lived in Memphis for four years when I was a kid, and I never knew that that was in Memphis until recently. I'm going to have to make a trip back there someday.
