I'm usually defensive when people assume all military folk are awful, but I honestly have not met one Marine who wasn't a douchebag. I sincerely wish this weren't the case. The men in the Amry that I know will tell you the same thing.

I have, but most of them aren't/weren't in the infantry (and to be fair, I've met a lot of Marines). The infantry is ... special.

My SO joined the Army when he was 18 and after four years, he was a raging, bigoted asshole. Which pissed me off no end, because before that he'd been a cool guy, into art and D&D and stuff, and about as tolerant as you could expect a guy born in a little town in Missouri to country folk to be.

It took him a couple years once he was out, but he finally shed all that asshole crap. Something about basic/service really just pounded some ugly shite into all those guys and women, too.

When I lived overseas in Okinawa, it was always the Marine military bases that were causing tensions with the Okinawans, so you might be onto something. Even my family members who were in the Marines are a special brand of macho asshole.
