Last week's Info Post was sad. The comments were sad. And for the rest of the week all of the submitted posts were sad except one or two about trees and cats with bowties, and I was going to post something else sad and dismal but I thought we could all use a break so TODAY WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT FOOD!

Oh! Also!

For the last six or seven months, I've been having this issue where whenever I eat food for the first time in the day, I immediately need to poop afterwards. It's like my system is clearing the way for more foods, but it should have already digested, I would think. Has never happened before this, and I'm wondering if it's gluten related at all. I was eating ramen and lots of pasta heavily during this period, but it hasn't affected me so badly since I stopped eating so much pasta, and have focused on other foods.

I'd love to consult a doctor about this, but I have no monies nor health insurance. Anybody else getting this?

That was happening to me. Every morning after breakfast I would have to go. IDK if it's gluten related, but my personal experience is that when I switched to a "paleo" diet for a month, that went away. I cut my bathroom time down to once every 2-4 days AND I didn't get bloated like I normally do throughout the day. I stopped eating that way and went back to daily morning poops after breakfast. :/

There were lots of other perks not directly related to my digestive tract, like I stopped snoring and got better sleep, but I don't want to start sounding like I'm pushing something on you, just want to share my experience.

Oh! A "paleo" diet? I will have to look this up! And no, don't feel that way, haha. I definitely wouldn't have put my poop out there if I didn't want suggestions. I'm just sick of pooping every day after my very first meal, and usually having a mild stomach pain until it clears up. Also a bit sick of the horrid diarrhea that pops up later that evening, or sometimes that morning AND evening. *shivers*

I'm just thinking that it's from having too much salt in my diet, or too much grain and pasta (or hoping at least, as I can't afford to be sick all the time). I know I'm getting older (almost 28), and I don't have my gallbladder anymore, but eh. I need to change my eating anyway. I'm just glad I'm not the only person who experiences this.

Yeah it's basically cutting out foods that are potential triggers for inflammation of the gut and insulin spikes (grains, sugar, dairy for some people) and eating meat plus veggies plus fats with low omega-6 levels (animal fats and olive oil). The first few days you may get diarrhea from the body not being used to the higher fat levels, but it clears out fairly quickly and isn't a "omg emergency must be by the toilet all day!" thing. A good resource is paleohacks.com for the finer tuning and even some beginner questions. Marksdailyapple.com is a good resource, as well as robbwolf.com.

I'm 28. I need to get back to eating that way, because I honestly felt awesome and lost 10 lbs without working out. I fell of the bandwagon when my friend moved back here from England and she wanted to eat all the stuff she couldn't get to over there, like IHOP and Olive Garden, ha. But after Thanksgiving I'm going back to this way of eating.

I love Foodgawker. (Of course, most of what I get off of there is baked goods, but still.)

i realise this is about food, and i usually tend to avoid these sorts of discussions, but i'm feeling a bit like sharing with strangers since i don't talk to anyone else about this.

i'm living in a flat i hate with people i despise. i already had a problem eating in front of people, and it's gotten even worse since i just don't LIKE anyone. this means i have cut down to eating only once a day (at the flat when nobody is home or out in public in a corner somewhere) and only a little at a time. i've lost tons of weight (obviously) but i'm also always incredibly hungry, but i literally cannot eat in front of my flatmates (i can in front of friends sometimes). it's so frustrating because i love to cook and i love to eat. i've been fighting this since university and i don't know what to do.

I hope this isn't a prying question (and if it is you can just say so), but why don't you like to eat in front of your roommates? Are they insulting you or just being generally dipshits?

As to what you can do about it? I'd say when they are out, and you have that small space of time when you can make your own food, just make enough food to eat throughout the day, instead of just one meal, and then put them in plastic containers. That way all you have to do is come out of your room, warm it, and then go back into your room to eat, I would suppose. My mother does this to avoid cooking three times a day.

one of my flatmates actually constantly calls me fat and lazy and tells me that i walk on the stairs too loudly and should maybe lose weight.

(i was in a dress the day before yesterday and he told me, 'that's such a nice dress on you. but you have a belly, maybe you should work on it.')

i'm not even kidding. and i can't cook in front of them because they always make a comment about how much i cook. it's really, really horrifying. i'm saving money to move out, though, so it's not gonna be forever, but for now...yeah. it sort of sucks

Try not to think of certain foods as “off-limits.”

NGL, I have consumed an entire bag in one day. Never, ever put food near me while I'm working.

To prevent this from ever happening again, I have taken to eating all snacks with chopsticks. This also saves my keyboard from getting gummed up with crumbs and chocolate bits and keeps my fingers clean. It's going okay though I get weird looks from my housemates.

Ummmm, can I post food porn?

I love food, I love eating, I hate cooking. It's an issue because I know how important it is to know how to cook but, idk, it's partly because my mom is an amazing cook, so our kitchen is firmly her territory. When she's trying to each me everything has to be done exactly her way and it can be intimidating. But I will learn. Because there are fifty million curries I need to learn how to make. Also, if anyone out there doesn't like veggies, vegetable curry is magical. You can make different kinds and mix it all together with rice and it's like an orgasm in your mouth. Seriously.

Clearly we need to team up all the people who hate cooking with those who love cooking but hate clean-up. MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN, Y/N?
