I can help explain the process for filing for a restraining order in the US. I have an internship writing petitions to the court for these orders in PA. Maybe I can find a well-written link about it to help out; one of the biggest problems that our filers seem to have is that it's so overwhelming and intimidating (which it totally is).

I wonder if filing for a TRO is the same in every state. I can provide the filing process for CA with direct links to forms, and it'd be awesome if people in law fields could also give state-specific information, provide local resources, etc.

I have information for Missouri. I just went through my family law and my victim advocate files yesterday and I believed I saved all the important and relevant docs. If you do cover it, I think the most important thing for people to understand is timelines, that it's a civil matter (so the difference between consenting to an order and being found against and being forced to comply with an order), the difference between an emergency and year long restraining order, and how statistically it can be the most dangerous time for women after filing them so offering resources for finding a local shelter might be very relevant. Also, many people think custody issues can be decided at those hearings and while your state might have a spot for it on the forms, it is up to a judge whether they will make any immediate rulings and that it is ultimately up to a family court judge to decide.

I can also help with students with abusive parents getting started on financial independance for FAFSA, which is kinda specific but relevant and important.

Moving On Your Own/Financial Independence would be a post I'd be interested in; I had practically NO idea how to move out of my parents' house and the lack of knowledge/resources really hampered me in that, especially across states, and had to learn a lot of lessons the hard way when I moved into my first place. I know a lot of our folks are high school or college age, so it'd be nice to see.

Oh jesus, seriously. Also, how to write checks yourself so you can back track them; an online friend just had HUGE shit because they were giving money straight to a roommate believing they were paying rent with it... and suddenly found out he had been spending it on random shit and that they owed like $2k or so in back rent.

Important? Not really. but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.
But is it political? Just because it has been frequently discussed in the past does not mean that the topic belongs here. This is a political community, you should be aware of that, especially since you're a moderator now. But you are the moderator making very OT posts, like an info-post about hair. How exactly was that political? There are other communities for that.
