At the end of dinner, Qaddafi told me that he’d made a videotape for me. Uh oh, I thought, what is this going to be? It was a quite innocent collection of photos of me with world leaders-President Bush, Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao, and so on-set to the music of a song called “Black Flower in the White House,” written for me by a Libyan composer. You can't make this shit up.
It's never good to have someone creepily obsessed with you -- having the guy be Gaddafi must have made it so much worse. I can only imagine what she dreaded when he told her he wanted to show her the video.
and to have dinner with him without her security detail! While I disagree with A LOT of her policies/ideas, I think she's a much braver person than I, in more ways than one.
Yeah, me too -- I really would have been iffy on the one-on-one dinner. In his "private kitchen" (I'm assuming he didn't *cook* the dinner; somehow that would have been even weirder). I understand a lot of her job on that trip included "humor his eccentricities," but...
In that photo her body language suggests she's trying to stand as far away as she politely can.
I don't agree with her politics, but I can't help but admire her for all of the shit she had to put up with as a woman of color in international politics.

Plus, compared to Palin and Bacchmann (however it's spelled), JFC.

republican or not, she's a woman of color at the top of international politics and governance and she was very well spoken, gracious and intelligent.
As a woman of color myself, I admire her greatly and hope to emulate her in my career.

She is a very, very strong woman, regardless of her politics. Strong PERSON I should say.
