Williams Lake girl accuses RCMP of assault

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association is calling for an independent investigation into allegations an RCMP officer in Williams Lake, B.C., assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

Martina Jeff says her teenaged daughter, Jamie Haller, was punched in the face by an RCMP constable while she was handcuffed in the back of a police car.

There have far to many stories about RCMP abuses of power in the last few years, and it would not surprise me at all if this girl's story is true - a few years ago, there was the girl who was arrested and then mistreated by the police in Victoria. (i can't remember if it was RCMP of not)

The cops way overreacted. I understand the whole 'emotions getting the best of you' but it happens way to often. Either the RCMP isn't screening applicants properly, or they're not properly training their employees on how to deal with people who are emotionally distraught, intoxicated, or mistrustful of police

IMO, RCMP officers should not be investigated by other RCMP officers, even if its a different detachment. You still have the whole old boys club/'one of our own' mentality going on. At the very least, there should be some civilian oversight of RCMP investigations of RCMP officers.

I thought of that case in Victoria too. And the girl won IIRC.

Something in the system is clearly rotten.
