As the Happy Time Daycare becomes the Point of Grace Children's Academy, staffers are required to reapply for their jobs with this warning: No gays, no Jews or other non-Christians.

A Waukee church is being criticized by angry parents for forcing child-care ( Read more... )

I note that the article mentions nothing about a severance package for the abruptly-and-unjustifiably-discharged employees. Fuck that place.

"When you sign on the dotted line when you choose to follow Jesus, he says this is the way your life should reflect me,” Mullen said

But I thought Christian's lives were supposed to reflect God? Well there's your problem right there, Mr. Mullen. You don't know who Christians are supposed to be obeying.

Here's a hint. NOT YOU.

I did find that to be a very telling Freudian slip.

It definitely says a lot, not only about him, but about everyone who went along with him. In my opinion, that's the problem with religion, Christianity in particular (I should disclaim this by saying I have no problem with any religion, and that people can believe whatever they want; I don't really care); nowadays, people claim that they're walking in "God's footsteps," but they aren't. They're walking their own path, and claiming it's "God's way." I mean, believe what you want, but don't act in ways that are clearly not the ways of God, and then try to foist your bad behavior on Christianity and make actual Christians look bad. That bugs the shit out of me ( ... )

I hope parents withdraw their kids so fast that it creates a fucking sonic boom .

The only problem I see with that is sometimes, finding affordable daycare that has slots for your kids is a fucking pain in the ASS. IDK, though, I couldn't leave my kids there. No fucking way. I wouldn't have them around that kind of bigoted, disgusting, judgmental bullshit. BUT I understand parents that don't have a choice, too.

"When you sign on the dotted line when you choose to follow Jesus, he says this is the way your life should reflect me,”

Uh, yeah, I don't think that's quiiiite how it works, asshole.

practicing homosexuals

I mean, the whole thing is infuriating, but something about this phrase always is so, so odd to me.

It means having gay sex or being in a same-sex relationship.

These people know gay "urges" exist so they don't condemn that. What they condemn is people actually "acting on those urges".

Yeah, I know what it means, but it's still a completely strange concept to me. I think it's because people use "practicing" or "non-practicing" when referring to their religious beliefs.

My brain usually jumps straight to imagining a Church of Gay.

Actually... it makes sense in the sense a lot of these people imagine there is some sort of "gay conspiracy," like we all get together once a week, praise gayness, and talk about bringing gayness to the heterosexual heathens. I don't actually think I have heard anybody use the phrase in a context that isn't anti-gay.

It is a normal, everyday thing for a religious organization to expect their employees to embody the principles of the religion. I think it's even more prevalent in organizations that are involved in the lives of children--schools, daycares, etc.

Substitute another religion for Christianity in this story and see what you think of it.

When did you start thinking that I might have a different view if the religion were different?

I have no opinion of you personally or what you might think. You're welcome to share, though.

Do you think it would make a difference?
