As I said before, Bachmann gets so much publicity because there's nothing our culture loves more than ridiculing women.

I've never thought of that before but it makes a lot of sense. Bachmann is pretty much on par in terms of conservative-ness with guys like Rick Perry, but somehow she picks up most of the hatred.

mte, she is a hateful bigot like her ilk and it is ableist as fuck to say it's ~craziness~ at work there. Don't handwave CONSCIOUS hatred like that, people!

Thank you. I would be far less worried if bigotry was only a result of mental illness. Nope, these retrofucks choose to promote terrible things. The problem isn't "bitches be crazy," it's bigots thinking other people are subhuman and making a choice to avoid engaging with facts.

yeah, writing off her awful opinions as "craziness" seems to imply that she really can't help herself. And it ignores the fact that I think a lot of this is a calculated political strategy aimed at stirring up people's fears and peoples bigotry in order to win votes.

I'm trying to see what's wrong with the picture? I didn't see the inside one with the devil horns but the cover one just looks like Michele Bachmann usually looks to me?

And frankly, Michele Bachmann is pretty out there. I'd classify her as a nut just like I'd classify Rick Santorum as a nut. It's not sexism. It's shit like the fact that she has a family that believes you can "pray the gay away" and her assertion that we need to investigate members of Congress for "un-American activities" and all the assorted nutty shit she espouses.

not defending Newsweek because I know they're trash, like that Diana shit was awful, but I don't really see what's wrong with the picture. It's pretty straightforward as a photo.

not sure about "the queen of rage" as a title though, that's gendering something that doesn't need to be gendered.

You're probably going to get a lot of comments that disagree with you, but I'm going to go ahead and say that I think you're 100% correct.

ia about the picture. I mean, I've seen this woman a lot, in photos and in videos, and that cover photo is... pretty much how she looks all the time, isn't it? I can see where they're getting the "she looks crazy!" from, but that's what Michele Bachmann looks like.

As far as the sexism is concerned, I'm always annoyed by how the media's portrayal of women only seems to become an issue when the woman being portrayed is herself a notorious misogynist.

yeah I mean what are they supposed to do? photoshop Michele Bachmann to not look like Michele Bachmann?

My honest opinion was that this is "just her face". It's not even a commentary about whether her face exudes 'sanity' or 'insanity'. It's...just her face, guys.

Seems like the teabag contingent is projecting a bit too hard, there.

True, though I think it's a bit more terrifying at full size. Fwiw, my friend called those "I saw Jesus" eyes.

It looks like exopthalmos. I wonder if she should get her thyroid checked. Seriously.

Nah, I think she has very lowset eyebrows naturally. She is Norwegian and a lot of women of Scandinavian descent up here in Minnesota have that (I look like my Norwegian family and have the same problem, for example.) It may also be the reason she waxes them so damn thin, tbh. Otherwise they look sort of droopy. Image is taken from below which doesn't help.

If I want to look like I'm not unenthusiastic/like a Neanderthal/etc. I usually have to lift my brow to some degree for a picture and that's why I pretty much look "crazy" in all of my photographs, too.

Sounds weird, but there you go.
