I wish they would focus on health, not weight. Chubby babies are just fine, and you really don't want to focus on your kids' weight excessively because that actually creates negative feedback.

And Michelle Obama mostly focuses on moving and eating well, not the scale. A much better approach than this shit.

exercise is healthy

the concern should be that babies will pick up bad eating habits from their parents

My daughter is 3 and we let her walk everywhere. I walk her to school 3 days, which is about a mile from out house. We walk to town and back. I would like to be more active but kids are so crazy active. They broke a chair already this year.

I do agree that if your kid can walk well, get them out of the pushchair. Obviously, do it safely.

It's not just about weight, it's about encouraging people to actively be healthy and making it easier for them to be healthy. It's kind of hard to get exercise in when you're working 40+ hours a week trying to make ends meet. Making it easier for low income people to have access to healthier food will help. Making gym memberships more easily accessible and affordable for the average person helps. Schools actually taking PE seriously definitely helps. I had an aerobics teacher in high school who was amazing, never fat shamed anyone and did nothing but encourage us to do what we could and I was a lot healthier because of it. Saying "get out and exercise" isn't going to magically make everyone skinny.

The YMCA membership I am signing up for is all inclusive $20 per month! :) All you have to do is bring in financial statements to prove you are low income and they will help you out.

that's awesome. I'm lucky enough to be a student so we have free access to our gym. But I talk to so many people who try to exercise but it's physically exhausting to even find the time between work and kids.

I feel the phrasing in the first article is kind of weird. Saying kids should be active isn't really the same as 'infants need to exercise so they're not fat,' especially since so many people think of exercise as something deliberate that takes time and effort.

I thought all the movement was important because it helped baby muscle development :/ Babies are supposed to be chubby and squishy and adorable <3 Being really skinny as a baby and little girl are what caused a lot of health problems for me :/
