It's not just about weight, it's about encouraging people to actively be healthy and making it easier for them to be healthy. It's kind of hard to get exercise in when you're working 40+ hours a week trying to make ends meet. Making it easier for low income people to have access to healthier food will help. Making gym memberships more easily accessible and affordable for the average person helps. Schools actually taking PE seriously definitely helps. I had an aerobics teacher in high school who was amazing, never fat shamed anyone and did nothing but encourage us to do what we could and I was a lot healthier because of it. Saying "get out and exercise" isn't going to magically make everyone skinny.

The YMCA membership I am signing up for is all inclusive $20 per month! :) All you have to do is bring in financial statements to prove you are low income and they will help you out.

that's awesome. I'm lucky enough to be a student so we have free access to our gym. But I talk to so many people who try to exercise but it's physically exhausting to even find the time between work and kids.

Yeah, I think "exercise" shouldn't be the goal, at least initially--who has the time to go to the gym or join a local team or go for runs?! Better to focus on moving. When given an option, choose the one that lets you move more. Then it can be part of a dozen daily activities like getting to work, grocery shopping, etc.

Yeah I agree. People should definitely be able to move more, especially at work. They should at least have an area where people with desk jobs can get up and walk around.
