But if the US had socialized health care, they might have a reason to be interested...

I'm reading Whitewash: The Disturbing Truth About Cow's Milk and Your Health right now and it's amazing what will be reported as fact by EVERYONE in the name of pushing the US ag industry.

Citing scientific literature, Whitewash builds an unassailable case that not only is milk unnecessary for human health, its inclusion in the diet may increase the risk of serious diseases including:

Osteoporosis

...

Riiiiiight.

His point is that osteoporosis isn't a lack of calcium but bone loss which is caused by many factors. As for dairy increasing the risk of osteo, maybe he means that people stop there since broccoli doesn't have a marketing campaign. :)

"What is very troubling about the administration's proposal is that they would have us drastically change food marketing without presenting any evidence that it changes diets or assessing the costs," Faber said.

Wellll... how much money do you spend on that marketing? I mean, if you're shelling out Big Bucks on the practice, surely it means YOU believe it works.

Srsly. The administration doesn't NEED to cite new research, because the food companies already have it right in their own marketing studies.

WASHINGTON - House Republicans are siding with food companies resisting the Obama administration's efforts to pressure them to stop advertising junk food for children. a big corporation who will give them huge amounts of money to let them continue to present something unnecessary, unhelpful or unsafe as just the opposite to preserve their profits

I'm fine with the ban simply because goddamn it is annoying to say no fifty million times. "No, we can't stop at Burger King/McDonald's/Wendy's/Arby's/Carl's Jr/Panda Express/name-your-place-here and STOP ASKING HOLY SHIT." I mean, it's still my place as the parent to say no, but it'd be nice to not have so many promptings for them to ask for unhealthy shit.

I just think it's stupid as hell what the GOP focuses on, which is my problem with it. Seriously, there are bigger problems. Like the fucking debt limit thing. Maybe try to be adults on that or something, guys.

/possibly irrelevant comment and if so I apologize
