I was going to write something long and rambling, but you've saved me the effort. So now I can say "This."

1) I was kind of being facetious with my comment, in case it wasn't obvious.

2) Harry is still wealthy and comes from a very old, wealthy, respected wizarding family - basically the wizarding aristocracy. He begins to find this out the day he goes to Diagon Alley at age eleven, and fully realizes it over the course of the books. Royalty, etc. being raised in poverty and then finding out their true identities is a pretty old trope; JKR's idea is nothing new.

So basically, Harry Potter is a magicked up story of What It's Like In Real Life. Shocking.

idk in real life I'm pretty sure the slaves aren't thrilled to be slaves. Also they don't usually have to wear pillow cases.

How dare you insult house elf couture. Pillowcases are so in right now.

Oh come on, pillowcases are SO last year. Hogwarts tea towels are what every fashionable elf should wear.

Ahahahahha. Exactly! Well, I don't haaaate him, I just don't love him and I wouldn't give a shit if he died. Plus, his love life annoyed me senseless.
