1) I was kind of being facetious with my comment, in case it wasn't obvious.
2) Harry is still wealthy and comes from a very old, wealthy, respected wizarding family - basically the wizarding aristocracy. He begins to find this out the day he goes to Diagon Alley at age eleven, and fully realizes it over the course of the books. Royalty, etc. being raised in poverty and then finding out their true identities is a pretty old trope; JKR's idea is nothing new.
