A federal judge temporarily blocked the Obama administration Monday from using federal dollars to fund expanded human embryonic stem cell research, saying the research involves the destruction of embryos.
i thought most of the embryos used in ESC research were excess embryos from in vitro fertilization and would have been discarded anyway. or perhaps that's not quite right.
Passively throwing them away making their ~human life potential totally useless is FAR LESS EVIL than actively manipulating them just to save some sick people's lives OKAY WE ARE TRYING TO BE GOOD HERE. /sarcmark
That's what was confusing me. Are they saying they would rather let the embryos sit in a fridge somewhere wasting away, rather than be used for scientific research that would benefit us all? idgi.
"decrease the number of human embryos available for adoption." HOWEVER I CAN ASSURE YOU THERE ARE PLENTY OF CHILDREN OUT THERE IN THE FOSTER SYSTEM WHO WOULD LOVE TO BE ADOPTED!
I read that and laughed for a bit. My coworkers are giving me funny looks, but LOL. And the people donating their embryos? I think they donated them because they, ya know, didn't want to have children. This practice isn't going to cause ADOPTION SHORTAGE 2010. -_-'
I know some people adopt embryos ('adopt' seems like the wrong word but idk what other one you'd use), but I think anyone who honestly thinks all of the embryos produced for in vitro should be adopted is seriously underestimating just how many embryos we're talking about here.
