I'm a big fan of 'The Tomorrow Series' by John Marsden. I was a teen when the books first became big and I loved it because it had a strong female protagonist and it had a very peace message 'war is hell, being a soldier destroys the soul' etc. I also loved it because it was set in a landscape that was very familiar to me, as an Australian

America and NZ are the countries which are named in the book - but it's very ambiguous about the enemy. Although it is sympathetic about the enemy soldiers, a lot of them are described as being very young and it's very sad in that way.

If it doesn't...I'll be enormously disappointed, because it will have ignored one of the central things that made the books powerful in the first place.

I wonder how many people now are going to learn about it thanks to Enslaved: The Odyssey to the West, a video gaming coming out later this year based it, with a gender-switched Sanzo.

Tripiktaka (who is Sanzo is Saiyuki) is played by a woman and is extremely pretty. And Monkey and Tripitaka have lots of UST. Tripitaka is as far away from Sanzo as you can get.

Maybe the invaders were Asian because white dudes in wigs and knickerbockers might be a bit anvilicious.
Still, haven't seen the movie yet, so maybe that stresses the whole "Asian invasion" thing, I dunno.
