I'm a big fan of 'The Tomorrow Series' by John Marsden. I was a teen when the books first became big and I loved it because it had a strong female protagonist and it had a very peace message 'war is hell, being a soldier destroys the soul' etc. I also loved it because it was set in a landscape that was very familiar to me, as an Australian

It can be problematic - and I wish cinema didn't demand a specific visual identity for the invaders at all - but it also makes a fair bit of sense. Who is there that's simultaneously close enough to invade (if they so chose) and has the military resources to hold Australia after a successful invasion?
There's a reasonably long list for the geographic criteria. There's a somewhat shorter list for the military criteria. Countries fitting both...that's a tricky one, because very few countries have both.

Otherwise...China could. Indonesia could, though they might struggle to keep up a presence in the empty bits in the middle. Japan could if their constitution allowed it, but it doesn't, and they'd have the same issues Indonesia would. Other than that, it's coalitions only, and even they would struggle.

That or, and I'm horribly stereotyping here, which I apologise unless you're Asian, you wouldn't have known of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Ramayana, Genji, Tale of Kieu, Basho, etc
Another point would be, our lack of interest in learning Asian languages despite that our nearest neighbors are Asian. One of the rare things I liked about KRudd, was that he was bilingual and spoke Chinese.
