So far, i've read 12 different versions of this story in 3 different languages and each one tells a slightly different story, so beware OP. LOL

One Israeli soldier was killed (haven't seen any reports of others). 3 Lebanese soldiers and 3 Lebanese journalists were killed (1, a newspaper reporter for Al-Akhbar daily and 2 for the Al-Manar tv station).

Also, to give people some context. Hassan Nasrallah is scheduled to give a huge speech tonight addressing the issue of the tribunals (the results of the tribunal are supposed to be released soon and members of Hezbo are implicated), so this clash was definitely well-timed. The Israelis were hoping to steal Nasrallah's thunder (and highlight a sense of threat to the Lebanese), but instead are giving him a big gift.

Sorry - make that 2 Israeli soldiers, 3 Lebanese soldiers and 1 Lebanese journalist were killed and another Al-Manar journalist injured. Here is the Reporters without Borders press release: http://en.rsf.org/liban-lebanese-journalist-killed-when-03-08-2010,38093.html

This is a little bit concerning -- I have a friend who's in Taibe, just up the road, at the moment. Additionally, um, Eilat is right at the other end of the country. It's odd to connect the two.

This border is really crazy. There's a point where you are driving along a 'highway' - it's like two lanes, but go with it - and there are all these Israeli farms. And then beyond the Olive trees, there's a stupid barbed fence with a bunch of 'stay away' signs. And then the bus driver on our tour was like, 'Look kids, Lebanon!'

Awwwwesome.

Anyway. I'm just saying, having been there I can easily see how the shit would go down and I'm surprised there's not more cases of 'Israeli guy accidentally crashes his car into Lebanon' or whatevs.
