This whole situation blows my mind. I simply can't understand why there wasn't a contingency plan in place in case this ever happened! 90 days to plug it is simply unacceptable.

Yesterday we tried to go surfing thinking it could possibly be the last opportunity before the oil gets too close, but the waves were ridiculous. Red and purple flags for the past week (rough seas and dangerous wildlife). I plan on helping with cleanup if it gets here (Destin).

Since you're in area to help with cleanup, check out Matter of Trust. They're in California but have good information on using hair as a cleanup method and then how to compost it. You can make a low tech boom using recycled panty hose and hair clipping.

I wonder if because of the size of this slick if it could increase surface temps a bit more than normal giving storms that may not become hurricanes a chance to do so.
