Hooray for right-wing populism, always trying to find new revive old ways of being as counter-productive as possible.

Oh awesome, free them from their opression by confining them completely to their homes. Great. Good. That'll really solve their problems. FAIL. EPIC FAIL.

Just stopped here to point out that it doesn't ban hijabs, it bans pieces that cover a woman's face. A lot of people here seem to confuse it.
+ I think it's a controversial move. There are other things that can make women to open their faces on their will (but it will take a lot of time and effort). This ban just will make people angry

I'm not even touching this, but:

France, nominally Roman Catholic,
No, no, it's not. France is secular, it's written in the constitution.

Maybe a majority of people say they're Catholics, but what they mean by that is that they go to Church for Easter and Christmas and have their kids christened and have a church marriage (after a civil marriage, otherwise it's not legal). And for a lot of people, it doesn't go any further than that.

And religion is forbidden within the state sphere: no veils for Muslim civil servants, for example, but also no pope portraits in police station (fuck you, Dan Brown!).
