I have been a Republican since 1966. I have been working extremely hard for the Party, for its candidates and for the ideals of a Republican Party whose tent is big enough to welcome diverse points of view. While I have been comfortable being a Republican, my Party has not defined who I am. I have ( Read more... )

I agree. He's made some pretty unpopular decisions that weren't in line with his politics because he thought it was the right thing to do.

It just occurred to me that this whole thing is like Specter suddenly un-friended the whole GOP on LJ. Seriously, he's going to have to change all of his Twitter friends, his Facebook friends.....this could take weeks to unravel. ;p

LOL, MTE!

Aside from the public, political effects, there's another layer of technical and personal underpinnings that will be an absolute quagmire

Also: Icon? Killing me with Yay.

I cannot imagine how hard this was for him. I don't see what the issue some people have with the supposed "class" involved with him switching sides. As rich and often white as they are, it's not a damn country club. They get chosen into these offices to get shit done, and if the letter R or the letter D in front of their state tag gets in the way of that, then it should be the first to go.

On a personal level, this must have been hard, but since the GOP has been treating him like King Scabby of Leper Town since the stimulus vote there must have been some catharsis.

"King Scabby of Leper Town" is how I am now going to refer to him for the rest of my life. SORRY ARLEN.

Haha, I knew there was a reason I kept this icon on here. It's so useful when my home state comes up.
