"Afghanistan..I SAID AFGHANISTAN"

He's not a child or an old man, don't talk down to your guests. It's no mystery O'Donnel is a HUGE Obama supporter, but her behaviour during this whole interview was pretty hilarious.

I agree with Kucinich overall, there should also not be a long-term vatican-sized US embassy there, but the president should be given a window of opportunity in Iraq if his plan does actually bolster the Iraqies to become more militristically independent.

On Afghanistan, I just think it's all wrong.

Why does Kucinich hone in on 50,000 when the reality of Obama's declaration today was

35,000-50,000 in 18 months
0 in 34 months

If you're going to take an oppositional stance, represent that which you are opposing accurately.

For instance, what about all the private contractors? I haven't heard what Obama's position is on their presence and their withdrawal.

He wasn't taking an oppositional stance, just pointing out that there's more that should be done and that the longer we leave a residual (but nonetheless occupying) force we're not helping our security. Bringing Syria and Iran into the process and having increased international cooperation is sensible.

Re. private contractors:

AMY GOODMAN: Can you call for a ban on the private military contractors like Blackwater ( ... )

In so far as he is opposing the current plan as set forth by the President, he is taking an oppositional stance - which is fine, as the plan is certainly worthy of criticism. I would just prefer that criticism not come in the form of straw men. If the levels state are 35,000 to 50,000 in 18 months and 0 in 34 months, don't represent the levels as 50,000 without reference to timetables.

Thanks for the Amy Goodman interview. I really feel like the press is dropping the ball on the private contractors issue. I did some searching on the topic and am not finding hardly anything substantial reported on the issue today. It seems like Obama is bringing up so many topics all at once - Iraq withdrawal, the budget, health care, etc. - that it's hard for the media to focus in on one and investigate.
