Also I herrrd that if you read about Germany in the late 1920s Obama sounds A LOT LIKE A SUPER CHARISMATIC LEADER WHO WAS ALSO BORN OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTRY amirite amirite
You won't believe how many Germans are making that comparison, too. It's really depressing. That's why we'll never, ever have nice things a truly charismatic politician over here again. (Well, there's one guy who is trying (and failing) to emulate some Obama spirit, but having the dumbest-sounding name in history and looking like Harry Potter's nerd brother doesn't really help...)
Yeah, we should just stop reading when we find someone who agrees with us. Give ourselves a nice pat on the back, stretch lazily, then go watch some teevee.
No, I think the point is more that DeLong throws around dismissive rhetoric so often that we shouldn't take his opinions on what "serious historians" think any more seriously than we'd take Ann Coulter's opinion on what "serious politicians" think. I'm mostly speaking to his rhetoric which is, as usual, intemperate and dismissive.

What you do see a lot of is sloppy "we need stimulus because the New Deal beat the Depression" rhetoric. It's worth refuting.

No serious historian would argue that the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression.

Credentials aren't sufficient, they need to be the _right_ credentials.
Partisan economists are unworthy of consideration unless they are named Cole and Ohanian today.
Obviously DeLong needs to take a history or economics course.
I think I've heard this somewhere before.
