I think what Edwards did to his wife was pretty scummy, but that shouldn't negate what he has to say (or as Bill Maher said, "Don't throw the illegitimate baby out with the bathwater"). I wish Americans could be more mature about that kind of thing.
I'm a big fan of Obama and appreciate his concentration on the middle class, but I wish he were a stronger advocate for the poor, and could speak more honestly about income inequality. I could just see Republicans saying things like "Look! He just wants to give out welfare checks to all the inner city black folks!" if that were the case, though.
I can't help but feel like he was set up with that whole wife thing. I mean, the way I understood it from the stories - his wife was going through some hardcore cancer treatments and was constantly sick. He's holding it together for the family and doing his stressful job on top of it. All of a sudden, this woman comes around constantly offering new age spiritual healing that involves sex. Later, when it's political inconvenient for him, she sells the story for shitloads of money. I mean, he blamed it on having a big ego from all the attention he was receiving, but in all the interviews, she just kept going on and on about how he needed "spiritual healing," leaving my inner conspiracy theorist wondering if she saw him vulnerable and jumped at the case to keep herself set for life. Not that I'm saying it's wasn't a horrible thing for him to sleep around on his sick wife, but the whole story seemed a little fishy to me.
