great post, OP!

while i agree with a lot of what the author in the trumpland article wrote, i think they're being way too optimistic. whenever they said that more funding and resources should go to such-and-such thing, i rolled my eyes. like, sure, in the perfect world everything would be well-funded, but where is that money going to come from? most people don't know or care where our tax dollars are going to. things are going to get much worse before they get better, unfortunately, and economic scapegoats will be the first and hardest hit.

the last article about the collapse of capitalism and how there doesn't seem to be a foreseeable system to replace it was scary.

If the government would give me a basic income in exchange for teaching volunteer ESL classes, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I love volunteer classes. All the joy of teaching, none of the paperwork.

if it was any company other than FOXCONN... I'd probably be offended. But this is FOXCONN, aka the shittiest company to work for in the world.

That said, I swear I think CEOs are bloody stupid. There's so much focus on cutting labor costs but sooner or later your customers will no longer have disposable income. Which is gonna make it awfully hard to sell iPhones...

When Chinese labor is not cheap enough to stop automation, that is when you know shit is going to hit the fan soon. CEOs are driven by the mentality of short term gains. As for the Chinese government, they have an incentive to provide jobs to their people to keep them fat and happy, this is not a good sign.

I suspect there is going to be social unrest in China very soon.

“Identity politics” (or particularism) and “unity politics” (or universalism) are not mutually exclusive, and do not have to detract from each other. To clip either wing of our movement is to cripple its ability to fly

SPEAK ON IT

Rural Democrats in Wisconsin begged their party leaders in Madison for yard signs, but were told the campaign funds had to be put into TV ads.

This happened in Florida, too. We didn't get told the money was for ads but there were barely any signs.
