see the "higher education gateway to a better life" is double funny to me because:
1) most bachelor's degrees are now oversaturated to the point of uselessness
2) colleges have REALLY lowered standards in a lot of ways and also increased tuition / admissions because $$$$
3) it is not what you graduate with but who you know - aka it is better to get drinking buddies in high places than to have a shiny resume

so either way

Why do these journalists keep writing as if, for a lot of people, getting a college degree is anything more than a ticket to a lifetime of undischargable debt? Oh, right, because it worked out fine for them, and they don't know the sort of people who get degrees but are unable to make those degrees pay off because they lacked the ability to work unpaid as interns first/the connections to be introduced to hirers.

And on the right-wing side, I'm seeing more and more justification of "meritocracy" through victim-blaming. Oh, those people made "wrong" choices, so now they deserve to be living on the streets starving in their old age.

I am no expert, but I have read a few things here and there and I think the problem is that there is a lack of data and cooperative projects to allow for the cooperative movement to gain momentum to create an alternative ( ... )
