Just heard Jill Stein interviewed on NPR about this and was very impressed. Just as you suggest, she was clear that she has no expectation the result will change, it's that the patchwork of voting systems in different states has never been validated -- and needs to be if people are to have faith in our democracy.

paper ballots counted by devices that have no online, wifi, or Bluetooth access. Is that really so hard?

And whose totals are checked (in a random sample of cases) against manual recounts.

And then what, we are collecting another 6M to reverify the verification?

Your recount will not prove anything as probability of it being rigged is just as high

Eh it would make a good stress test at least. White hat hackers have indeed proven how easy it is to mess with digital machines and most of what we have in the USA is disturbingly outdated. In my area we finally switched to doing it scantron style which at least provides a paper trail (which many districts do not have).

It ain't a loss and truthfully needs to be done. But god forbid the government not pay for something that doesn't either put money into pet pork projects or give money to groups that will turn around and help pay for their re-election campaign.

Yeah, they just switched back from electronic machines to paper ballots here to prevent possible fraud. I'm really glad they did that. I don't think that there was any fraud when I voted in previous elections on the machines, but it does make me feel more secure knowing there's a paper ballot.

The problem with paper ballots is every single person counting can commit fraud as opposed to hacking computers.

I'm excited for it to happen. Even if we just verify the original results, it'll be good to know that the counts are trustworthy.
