“Listen to their concerns,” it continues. “Don’t offer support for concrete policy positions.”

This is so frustrating. Basically, say just enough to escape without being helpful. Why do politicians want to be in office if they don't actually want to do anything.

Argh. I feel like a lot of people have missed the point of this memo, and I don't have the energy right now to fully explain why I feel that way. But it would bother me not to say anything at all, so my only comment is this: Go to the source and read the full text of the memo from start to finish. Then see if you feel any different. A lot of things sound different/worse when they're taken out of context. Maybe this will seem that way to you, maybe not.

I started to work on a big long reply post to explain all of my thinking about this and ended up deciding not to finish it. The thought is just too exhausting, and the idea of possibly having to deal with an ensuing shit storm is even more so.

If someone wants to accuse me of "waving" this away, go right ahead.

I just read it and yes I have agree this article glosses over or ignores more then half the memo says especially all the parts talking about what congressional members should do.

I read the whole thing and it doesn't really seem better, unless I missed something? The page and a half on HuffPo? It says a lot of what people should say to avoid media scrutiny, but not about what should be done to address BLM's concerns.

-Explore reforms to ensure officers are property trained and don't infringe on citizens' rights.
-Hold police accountable to their actions when it's clear case of wrongdoing

These were the two main things I saw to address what should be done. The rest was general but given it was over a year ago it's likely they expected more concerte and focused actions to come from the party platform which I believe it does.

In the part when talking about black on black crime and all lives matter it does say something about avoiding media but that is one line and also included saying they are red herring as reasons not to use them and states the party should not try to take over the movement, aka take over, but should be partners and to get staff doing that.
