Not Tom Kaine. The only thing he brings to the ticket is a Y chromosome -- she does NOT need him to win Virginia against Trump.

o.O just a Y... chromosome..

Kaine...
- was a mayor
- governor (and generally well liked)
- Senateperson (also generally well liked)
- fluent in Spanish and is on good terms with Hispanic communities bc he outreaches
- can net some of the more religious vote bc of his Catholic faith
- has an A+ rating from Planned Parenthood so his faith doesn't necessarily indicate anti-abortion
- has a mostly clean closet
- has never lost a race he's run in in his whole career
- you underestimate the anti-Washington sentiment in VA; it's important to remember that the reason Dems have consistently won is because of the NoVa / Richmond area NOT the state as a whole. We still are gerrymandered and Warner almost LOST his last election to an upstart conservative which was supposed to be easy
- Kaine may not be exciting and I'll be the first to admit it but dude is also super-white bread so he is a safe choice

Simplifying it to "just a Y chromosome" is hella dismissive. To anyone.

Yeah. Shit, I think Tim can be boring, but he's actually a good politician. He speaks fluent Spanish (well, by the way not like Ted Kennedy, Rest his soul) and is generally well received.

I got mildly offended as a Virginian, damn it! Mildly though.

Yep. I mean - obvs he's pretty corporate but idk. I think he cares which is more than many can say. (and I completely forgot that he also chaired the DNC before DWC so yeah. Just a Y chromosome is super-dismissive here. :/ )

W/e man it's Virginia. I can find new things to get offended about. Like Blacksburg's daily pain-in-the-butt rainstorm that's been happening all July.

I don't know, think Clinton's already lost the misogynist vote. After all, a lot of them started voting for Bernie and hating on her, and are still in the never hillary camp. Adding a male to the ticket wouldn't really make a difference to them

IMO, if she had Elizabeth Warren as a running mate it might be Clinton's chance to gain support from former Sanders supporters. Some of them are misogynist but I know a hell of a lot of people who were not white and/or male voting for Sanders. Now that he's not running, those who weren't inclined to support her might if she has someone on board who seems to share more of Sanders' ideas.

Given their reaction to Warren endorsing Clinton, I think it's more likely they would hate on Warren. I mean, these are people claiming that Sanders was forced to endorse Clinton so at the primary he could stage a coup and take all the delegates.

I'm curious why Martin O'Malley hasn't even been kind of talked about. Did his run achieve nothing for him?

I don't think enough people like him or that he's that memorable. I just remembered he ran cause of your comment.

It's because he's useless, if not potentially harmful, to her. His chief legacy as mayor was his tough on crime record which wouldn't exactly signal that she's open to criminal justice reform (Tim Kaine being pro-life is less threatening with Hillary heading the ticket), Maryland is an electorally useless state (unlike VA), and having the former governor of Maryland on her ticket would make it way too easy for the people who keep comparing her to Nixon.

I think his run was just nominal opposition, and Hillary losing in 2008 derailed the political timeline he and others had imagined for him. It would have been fun to see him and Christie bickering again, though...

Out of the ones she's seen I think she has the best chemistry with Sherrod Brown, Corey Booker and Elizabeth Warren.

No to Tim Kaine, I caught a bit of one of their rallies on TV and while I'm sure he's a huge Hillary fan he is super boring.

There aren't term limits for VP, are there? I was wondering about that because I adore Uncle Joe.

That's kind of my feeling, too. I'm in a "Biden for Veeping Ever!" cloud (as is my husband), though I would not remotely mourn if she picked Booker.

Booker is a Gets Things Done kind of guy, which is SO refreshing, and he has so much energy and commitment and passion to serve.

My daughter would not only vote for him twice over, she'd add that it's the best way to get him on the road to Booker 2024. ;)
