My daughter and her friends just staged a walk out/sit in at their school because a trans student was stopped from using the right bathroom. The kids are on point and doing a great job with their messaging but I blame HB2 for it even being an issue. It wasn't last year, or the year before, but suddenly it is. There's a school board meeting tonight, I'm hoping reason prevails but we shall see. My faith isn't super high, as the school is blatantly lying. Here's a local story on it. http://www.wcax.com/story/31928724/transgender-bathroom-conflict-prompts-gmuhs-student-protest

Rachel Maddow is reporting right now that the federal government has sent notice to all public schools that they must allow students to use the bathroom matching their gender identity or risk loss of federal funding.

good.

That might explain why the board folded entirely tonight, despite every appearance of being ready to fight it out. I'll echo your Good.

That is good. Stupid 'phobes in schools without a brain between them. The kids generally behave so much better.

so this bathroom police shit is this years social issue attempting to lure in the religious asshole vote, isn't it? I honestly think is the worst one the right has yanked out, tbh, I've already read articles about people (who aren't even trans, mind you, but just gender nonconforming) being stopped going into the bathroom. Like I read one article about a woman in Texas who was waiting in the ER and some jerk stopped her when she went to take a pee, claiming he was "worried about his mother"

I know it could happen to my mother's BFF, she's 6'2" and looks very mannish. And I'd love to have a front-row seat, because Pat suffers ZERO fools.

Good on him. I hate when a company folds to bigots because of fear of the almighty dollar going away. I'm glad he's continuing to take a stand and holding fast.

I think some CEOs are finally realizing that the bigot dollars aren't always worth courting; by standing firm he's more likely to get more non-bigot dollars in the long run. I know my roommate and I went to Target for a new microwave instead of elsewhere in part because of their stand against the shitheads.

Most the time it's a 'space/cost' issue so if they do have a family bathroom, (like the Wal-mart in my town) it is hidden way in the back of the store. I'm not kidding, if you didn't know it was there, you would believe they didn't have one because of the location they placed it. You have to go through the electronics department, into an alcove that you usually see only employees going in and out of with freight so it doesn't even look like you can go back there. The only store I've been in that the family bathroom was visible has been Target, the other is the mall.
