Because, as we all know, cis-gendered heterosexuals are only ever attracted to or in love with one person in their entire lives and are always monogamous. Being bisexual means you want one of each, and all transgendered people are bisexual. Also, family means two, and no more than two.

When two people marry, there are two people in the partnership. It's limited to two by definition. We have a different name for relationships involving more than two people.
A person is still one person whether they are cis-gendered and straight or elsewhere on the spectrum.

If one wants to get technical about this, there are probably a bunch of states that would be pretty closely tied for the "most homophobic" title, and since most of the counties in AL DO seem to be complying with the law and issuing licenses to same sex couples, its homophobia score is probably lower than some states at the moment.
But even if AL isn't THE most homophobic state, it certainly does seem to have the most homophobic blowhard of a Chief Justice!
