I agree with you 100%. There are things he has said that I don't agree with, but he has been absolutely amazing in the things he does right. It is refreshing.
Every church of any size in my area is now offering free meals, food pantry, free clothing & etc. that was either not available in years prior. This is more the non-Catholic Christians churches. The Catholic ones are about what they used to be.
This is not to mention the many churches and other place (YMCA) that have AA, Al-anon (support for family of alcoholics and drug addicts, parents, kids, spouse/partners).
And it is hard to forget the priest who raped 200 deaf boys/the Madeline Laundries/the 800 dead babies at the Catholic home for unwed mothers. And many many more such items.
I'm sorry for a mostly curmudgeonly comment, I just grew up CAtholic.
I went through my years of hardly taking any showers because of all that happened to me. We had low cost counseling available, but in the back of my mind were the unremembered rapes. So I wasn't going to take advantage of any low cost or free stuff from them, something just kept me from doing it.
