And they just had a panel about consensual behaviour and sexual harassment at the con too. Dammit.

Terrible.

Can someone explain this:

contributing to the delinquency of a minor

Does that mean that she is supposed to have done something wrong?

Based on this line "He denied having sex with the victim or giving her any alcohol" I'm guessing that they're charging him with that for providing alcohol to someone under the age of 21?

Exactly. He is allegedly her boyfriend, as opposed to simply "a friend". What a piece of shit.

it means they did something with a minor they shouldn't have. provided drugs, alcohol, when it's a sexual thing it's "sexual delinquency". It's strange wording but not meant to cast blame on the minor.

The article is unclear, but you tagged it as "sexual assault". Was she sexually assaulted or just assaulted? I guess if they technically had "consensual" sex it's still sexual assault since she's a CHILD! The article said she was bloodied and unconscious and that she was treated for brain bleeding and "other" injuries. It doesn't really say she was sexually assaulted.

It's kind of weird that he would deny having sex with her if they weren't suggesting that she was sexually assaulted, I donno....

Either way, I am curious as to the circumstances that led a nearly 30 year old man to be "friends" with a barely 17 year old CHILD, and how did she convince her parents that it was a good idea to let him driver her there. Or did they not know? Did she run away? I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around this one unless she just took off and decided she was going to do her best impression of an adult....which isn't out of the realm of possibility. I remember being a 17 year old girl. I guess I was just luckier than this girl

It is.....well, it's a tricky answer. Since the victim is a minor, it isn't unusual for police to be vague on the issue. The articles and discussions I have seen about the incident suggest she was, but again at this point authorities are not firmly stating it. The best we have right now from official sources is "maybe", which from my experience working in law enforcement means it did happen and they are currently waiting for the decision of the victim and her parents before saying anything.

The basic jist I get from social media comments by people that know her (or at least are very plausible real life friends) is that he's her boyfriend. No mention of whether or not her parents had the faintest clue about it, so I really don't know on their end. But everything being said sends up enormous red flags about this douchebag.

That makes sense though. I guess I didn't think about the fact that they won't even release her identity so why would they say that she was sexually assaulted.

It's really a sad situation. I feel for this poor girl and her family. It's never an easy lesson to learn who not to trust in this world.

My mom let me have a 22 year old boyfriend when I was 16 and let him move into our house when he got kicked out of his. Parents don't always make smart decisions, especially when under stress. I was already running away from home so she was afraid of me leaving again if she said I couldn't see him.

Thanks for the update. I'm relieved that initial fears were wrong, but there are still a lot of questions that we may never have answers to.

She's been active on her fb too as of yesterday, so it's good to know she's ok.
