Somebody at a school in California decided to commemorate Black History Month with a lunch menu of fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon... and now claims they weren't trying to perpetuate stereotypes. Text and trainwreck under the cut.

Eeeeerrrgh. My husband has a story about how his high school would serve that for MLK's birthday. *facepalm*

The terrible cafeteria at my college served grits, collard greens, and watermelon for MLK day. And nothing else. JUST THOSE THREE THINGS. We had to waste a meal point before discovering this, and the all-black cafeteria staff had to quietly stand there and serve it to us.

I used to work for State Farm, at the Ohio Regional Office in Newark, OH... and our department did this. :\
