Amanda Figueroa says she's had her pit bull medical service dog Sir Doogan for nearly two years and had never had an issue taking him to public venues.

"I don't see how having a pit bull running loose with you qualifies as a service dog," stated Meggs."

For a second, I was going to ask how someone could be that ignorant or speak without thinking about but them I remembered that it's pretty par for the course.

Pretty much. He sounds like an enormous douchebag.

One of the advocate groups I follow knows Ms. Figueroa and Doogan, and stated that he was never off-leash or otherwise not under control while at the hospital. Basically, it all comes down to BS breed discrimination. Someone was afraid of him because of his breed, and treated Ms. Figueroa like crap as a direct result.

"Well some moron in Congress probably wrote that law," said Meggs.

So they're morons because they said you're not allowed to bully the disabled? This guy is a real asshole.

Aww. He looks like a sweetie. (My childhood family dog, a Newfoundland who was disqualified for showing because he was too big, was also named Sampson. :D )

I'm so sorry to hear this. You would hope that people in hospitals of all places would be a little more enlightened on this topic.

I'm getting my Cavalier puppy in March. I am SO excited. It is driving me up the walls trying to wait, but I know he'll be worth it. I'd love to train him to be a therapy dog as well as get him certified for me due to my social anxieties; I'm always better around my family dog but he has to stay with my parents.

It amazes me actually that this happens in hospitals because I'd feel like that is a space where faculty and staff would understand most about the importance of service animals. Apparently that's not the case!

I was trained that it's actually illegal to question someone's companion as a service animal and that you're not allowed to ask someone if they have verification or proof that their companion is a service animal. Is this just a state thing? I'm from WI.

"For example, in a hospital it would be inappropriate to exclude a service animal from areas such as patient rooms, clinics, cafeterias, or examination rooms. "
