The little sci-fi writer in me wants to make this type of quote into a Blade Runner type rebellion by AI against their human masters.

AI is often used as a parallel/substitute for oppressed RL oppressed groups. But, like IRL, a Good Guy AI is one who devotes itself to serving and protecting the privileged group (humans in sci-fi) and wants to be just like us. My dissertation deals with stuff along those lines, with emphasis on gender and sexuality-parallels.
