A North Carolina detective is on leave after shooting a mentally ill teen who had reportedly already been subdued with a Taser.

A ninety-pound teen vs. three cops with tasers and guns.... )

murder, mental health / illness, police, north carolina, police brutality

No. No no no. There is no logical explanation to go in and shoot to kill an already subdued person. No reason at all.

Dear god. This world is so scary and filled with horrible people in positions of power. I know that's not news, but with each new story... I don't know. I must be losing my job-related toughness because I read "90-pound boy" and "killed my son" and nearly lost it.

Why the hell is this allowed to happen? Why are people like that cop allowed to become police officers in the first place?

wtf? Fuck that guy. In what world is shooting a subdued person justified because you "don't have time for this?" Oh right. This one.

And this is why all states and cities should be required to have CIT programs and/or their police must have extensive training in how to deal with (for lack of better term) mentally ill persons. This type of reaction is unacceptable.

“We don’t have time for this,” Wilsey recalled one of the officers saying before he fired in between the two officers who were holding the teen down.

Killed a teen and endangered two fellow officers. I think the second is what will make sure he goes down for the first.
