Legalisation won't do that, sadly, unless it's accompanied by other measures. They tried it here in Germany, and it was quite a failure. Human trafficking is alive and kicking, and the number of sex workers who pay into social security is 44. The law was celebrated by feminists as protection for prostitutes, and it's now regarded a failure by more or less all political parties and sex workers themselves

Of course. Any measures to legalize prostitution would need to be accompanied by additional laws and regulations to protect sex workers and crack down on those who exploit the vulnerable and force them into prostitution.
Glad the ruling went this way--I didn't hear about this because all the news around me is about the Enbridge ruling. Getting rid of laws that aren't enforced and are flawed in the first place is a good thing.
I'm suspicious of how many people are sure decriminalizing sex work = organized crime. We already have the organizing crime so what would change with that? And this POV is coming from a lot of evangelical groups which smells like caring theatre. Are the groups against this also working on ending poverty, underfunded mental health help, and the "crime" of addiction?
at least in Canada, I keep finding Christianity behind the human trafficking = prostitution idea like Alliance for Action. I noticed a new doc on the topic is showing at a lot of churches but the website of the couple of made it doesn't mention religion. It does mention learning about "modern day slavery" at a "leadership conference" (what is that?) from International Justice Mission which sounds great but is "faith-cased" and "grew out of a group of Christian
