It's not. We have a vaguely similar case at work right now, and it is AWFUL, and people at various levels of care and government have said and half-suggested terrible things (I had a police officer comment that "These people need to be sterilized" to me on Friday and nearly lost my shit) but this situation is fairly uncommon, and this SPECIFIC reaction by social services is unheard of as far as I know.

What is terrifying is how many people in the care system would, apparently, take full advantage of this if it were an option...

Oh for heavens' sake, of course they bloody don't (I spend much of my working day *defending* the rights of my [elderly] clients against the medical profession and, very often, their own relatives ( ... )
