i had some redneck preach to me about this once on a shuttle when I was on my way to baseball game, that's why we shouldn't* give money to panhandlers. people are assholes.

I was in a gas station and gave a guy some change when a dude* in an Escalade drove up to tell me not to give the guy money. Later I asked why he said that, expecting "that guy is a scammer that'll take advantage of your distraction to gank your wallet" or something, but instead it was a song-and-dance about how he's seen that guy before asking for money.

Uh... okay? I see the same homeless people panhandling on their usual corners, too.

I don't give money. I offer to buy them a sandwich or give them some of my food. You piss off the scammers or you feed the hungry. Simple.
