this would perfectly underscore the Bush administration's failure to deal with Osama and even McCain's own uncertainty that Osama was a bad person, in 1998, after Al Qaeda bombed our embassy.
It'd actually be convenient for the Obama camp, really. McCain's been saying that he knows how to catch Osama, right? Because this would prevent a golden opportunity for them to point out that if he has this knowledge, he should divulge it to everyone instead of holding it as some sort of condition. "I'll tell you only if you elect me."
I don't know about anyone else but I seriously fail to see how catching or killing Bin Laden would really change things. Sure you've got the head of the organization that's out to get us, but you've also got to remember there's others who are just as vicious who may be in the background, nevermind the fact that there's still thousands and thousands of terrorists out there. Plus, killing Bin Laden may turn him into a martyr which might actually make things worse.
Bin Laden has a psychological hold on the American people more than any of the other leaders, whom most people couldn't name if their life depended on it. That's why it would change things, or at least the way the US acts. Terrorism won't stop, but maybe we'd stop being its pawn and feeding its growth.
