Obvious news is obvious, but it's still important. I think it's more likely though that the administration will start leaking vague, bogus info about ~threats in an attempt to scare people into voting for the repubs.
First of all, I think that Osama is probably dead, and many of those videos forged (not by the CIA, but by his cronies who know the attention he gets). Also, I think Osama could not have possibly hoped for a better outcome... sort of. He originally had some simple goals but instead become the leader of this movement of Islamic "radicalism". Thus, the Afghanistan and Iraq missions only serve his new goal of spreading the message.
I don't really get how this would help McCain at all. I can see, even though it's ridiculous that it worked, how releasing the tape helped Bush out in 2004, but...Bush isn't running again. And nobody wants Bush 3.0.
Plus, our economy is obviously in much worse shape nowadays, and that seems to be the #1 issue for everyone (as it should be, imo). An attack or something (god forbid) might push that to the back of people's minds temporarily, but in the end what we really need to focus on is getting our country back on its feet financially, and McCain has made it pretty clear that he has no plan. Furthermore, Obama has proven himself to be MUCH more effective in uniting people than McCain ever will be. If such an event were to happen, I think (hope) most people would want a leader who will actually lead, and vote accordingly.
Besides, all Obama would have to do is point out how hot-tempered McCain is.
